Penny Farm home for rescued horses and ponies
Penny Farm opened in 2001 and is home to around 55 rescued horses and ponies. It is part of the International League for the Protection of Horses (ILPH). Located in Blackpool, it offers holiday makers a day out with a difference and provides a permanent haven of peace and tranquility for local residents.
When you visit Penny Farm in Blackpool you can go on a guided tour of the farm and meet the horses and ponies. You will be shown around the farm and find out about the rehabilitation work that they do.
Penny farm is open all year except Christmas Day to New Years Day. It is open on Saturdays, Sundays and Bank Holidays from 11am to 4pm.
Penny Farm has a recently refurbished Coffee Shop and a small selection of ILPH souvenirs are available from the Gift Shop - so spending is guilt free as all profits go directly to fund the work of the ILPH!
Every day thousands of horses around the world suffer. Some travel for days in overcrowded lorries to slaughter, some work until they drop to feed their poverty-stricken Third World owner's families, some starve through uncaring neglect in an English shed.
Operating internationally, the ILPH is one of the world's leading equine welfare charities and improves the lives of many of these horses. Their political campaigners, international training teams, UK Field Officers and Rehabilitation Centres are all working towards a world where the horse is used but never abused. They are a caring and practical organisation which relies totally on the support of the general public to continue our work.
Fleetwood
Fleetwood is a great day out for all you shopaholics, from the main street, the massive indoor market to the designer outlet village at Freeport. Fleetwood is at the opposite end of the line, for the Blackpool trams, Starr Gate being some 12 miles away. In Fleetwood the trams share the road with the cars, and busses. Fleetwood was a thriving fishing port, but now takes on a more leisurely role as a shopping mecca. During the summer a passenger ferry runs from Fleetwood to the sleepy village of Knott End on Sea. All year round a vehicle ferry runs to Larne in Ireland.
Farmer Parr's Animal World
Farmer Parr's is a family run rare breeds farm in Fleetwood, just outside Blackpool. It is managed by Mr. James Parr. It is home to Llamas, Red deer, Emu and lots lots more. It also has many horses, some special breeds. It has its own country life museum, pottery shop and large water garden.
One of the main attractions to Farmer Parr's is the rare breeds. Many different rare species of cattle, sheep, poultry, horses can be seen all year round. In summer, the large paddock areas allow the animals to have a run in the open space and this is great for customers who wish to walk around viewing the many rare breeds.
