Blackpool Fireworks
Each September Blackpool plays host to the International Fireworks Championship.
Each year 4 countries are represented by their best firework display team. They are given the opportunity to set up huge displays from the Beach. This display is designed by the respective company and choreographed to of a piece of music of their choice.
Gone are the days of lighting the blue touch paper and running, now its another thing that's all done by computers. Well computers will brilliant engineers to program them, and amazing designers to imaging the display in time and space. These days multipoint remote firing increases safety, accuracy, and timing. But without the skill of the technicians this would all add up one big bang and lots of smoke.
The displays usually start with a big build up from a local radio station playing great music and whipping up the crowd between North and Central piers.
Then when this sky is dark and the promenade is lit by the famous Blackpool Illuminations and you thought that Blackpool couldn't get any more colourful, a magical, shooting fountain erupts, followed by a band and off it goes. With multiple rockets firing simultaneously and bursting in perfect synchronization with matching or complementary colors. A spectacular crescendo of colour and sound as giant Chinese "cakes" hypnotize you with crackles, screamers, and comets.
The displays can be seen from Bispham in the North to Squires Gate in the South. Probably the best vantage point is from Central pier looking towards North Pier. If you are lucky the tide will be in and the reflections of the fireworks in the sea is brilliant.
Blackpool Promenade
Blackpol Promenade can be divided into 3 distinct areas. North Shore, Central, and South Shore.
North Shore from the North Pier to Bispham along the cliffs past uncle Toms cabin. This is really the most historic part of Blackpool's Promenade as it has changed little since its construction in Victorian times.
Central is between South Pier and North Pier, this is currently undergoing an £80 Million rebuild. This will create a number of headlands and spanish steps from the promenade to the beach.
South Promenade is a beautiful peacful place, it streches from South Pier to Starr Gate. It is a great place to have an evening stroll and look at the art exhibits, From the worlds Biggest Mirror Ball to the wave powererd musical organ.
Blackpool Solaris Centre
The Solaris Centre is located on the South Promenade, it is set in four acres of beautiful gardens It is the first major Blackpool Council building to integrate a high level of energy-efficient features in its design.
The Carbon Neutral Garden won a Silver Gilt Medal at this years RHS show at Tatton Park. The innovative garden has been designed and created by landscape architects TEP and built by English Landscapes on behalf of the North West Development Agency. The concept at the heart of the design is the carbon cycle and the whole garden is geared towards demonstrating how to offset the carbon dioxide produced during the creation of a garden. As well creating an educational tool, the designers have minimised the carbon footprint of the garden and off-set any CO2 created in order to ensure that it leads by example.
